Ciancio Regina | Responsabile LAME
Regina Ciancio si è laureata in Fisica “cum laude” presso l’Università degli Studi di Salerno dove ha anche conseguito il PhD in Fisica nel 2007 e ha lavorato come PostDoc Fellow fino al 2009. Tra il 2005 e il 2007 è stata visiting researcher presso il Microscopy and Microanalysis Group della Chalmers University of Technology a Göteborg in Svezia, dove ha acquisito una solida esperienza nella Microscopia Elettronica a Trasmissione (TEM) e spettroscopie correlate. Nel 2009 è entrata a far parte del CNR-IOM a Trieste (Italia) come Research Scientist ed è diventata Responsabile del Centro di Microscopia Elettronica dell’Istituto fino a settembre 2022. Attualmente è Senior Scientist presso Area Science Park e Responsabile del LAME (LAboratorio di Microscopia Elettronica).
L’attività di ricerca di Regina Ciancio è incentrata sulla caratterizzazione avanzata mediante TEM di nanomateriali, con particolare attenzione alle eterostrutture a film sottile di ossidi complessi. È autrice di oltre 75 pubblicazioni ed è stata invitata a presentare i suoi risultati a diverse conferenze internazionali. Ha contribuito all’organizzazione di diverse scuole, simposi e workshop con focus sulla microscopia elettronica ed è anche Vicepresidente della Società Nazionale Italiana di Microscopia Elettronica.
È coordinatrice del progetto IMPRESS, un progetto finanziato dall’UE nell’ambito di Horizon Europe incentrato sullo sviluppo di nuovi componenti, strumenti e metodi per la prossima generazione di strumentazione TEM.

Regina Ciancio took her Physics degree “cum laude” at University of Salerno where she also achieved her PhD in Physics in 2007 and worked as PostDoc Fellow until 2009. Between 2005 and 2007, she was visiting researcher at the Microscopy and Microanalysis Group of Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg in Sweden where she acquired a solid experience in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and related spectroscopies. On 2009, she joined CNR-IOM in Trieste (Italy) as Research Scientist and became Head of the Center of Electron Microscopy of the Institute until September 2022. She is now Senior Scientist at Area Science Park and Head of LAME (LAboratorio di Microscopia Elettronica).
Regina Ciancio research activity is focused on the advanced characterization by TEM of nanomaterials, with special emphasis on complex oxides thin film heterostructures. She is author of more than 75 publications and she has been invited to present her results to several international conferences. She contributed to the organization of several schools, symposia and workshops with focus on electron microscopy and she is also VicePresident of the Italian National Society of Electron Microscopy.
She is coordinator of the IMPRESS project, a EU-funded project within Horizon Europe focused on the development of new components, tools and methods for the next generation of TEM instrumentation.
