As part of the 42nd cycle of PhD programmes, the University of Trieste is funding, through Area Science Park resources, 1 PhD scholarship dedicated to project “Representation learning for understanding and improving modern AI-systems” (Project No. 9 of the call), to be carried out at the Laboratory of Data Engineering (LADE) of Area Science Park, located in Padriciano (Trieste).
The fellowship is linked to two possible research directions:
1. Representation learning for controlling complex systems
Supervisor: Alessio Ansuini
This project will explore how abstract representations learned by deep neural networks can help translate high-level control goals into feasible low-level interventions, with applications to complex systems such as biological, technological, and computational systems. Info: alessio.ansuini@areasciencepark.it
2. Topological and dynamic methods for neural representations
Supervisor: Matteo Biagetti
This project will develop scalable methods based on topological data analysis to study high-dimensional representations in artificial and biological neural systems, with applications to interpretability and scientific datasets.
