Patent and market information
PATLIB: A set of tools to unlock the value of ideas
Area Science Park hosts the PATLIB Centre, offering researchers, entrepreneurs and students information and guidance services on intellectual property.
As an accredited center by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Italian Patent and Trademark Office (UIBM), it ensures continuous skill updates and strong connections with other national and international centres.
What we offer
Through PATLIB, we provide practical and informational support on patenting.
We promote initiatives focused on the informational value of patents, research data and new investigation and analysis techniques and methodologies.
By analysing information from various databases, we help companies to define the technological and competitive scenario of their sectors of interest.
Services
Training on general industrial property rights (patents for inventions, trademarks, utility models, designs, copyright) and on the use of free databases for prior art searches. Support in defining needs, protection strategies and planning initial Intellectual Property activities.
Research conducted on patent documentation to verify the originality of an inventive idea, identify alternative technical solutions and explore partnership opportunities. The research results enable the assessment of patentability requirements before filing a patent application.
Verification of the geographic scope and validity of patents and patent applications to avoid conflicts with third-party rights. Monitoring competitor strategies also provides insights into relevant and strategic products, as well as markets and countries of interest.
Searching for registered trademarks similar to your own and preliminary verification of the originality of models and designs.
Collection of technical-scientific and market information on sectors, technologies, products or companies of interest. It includes the processing of data and information on insights on market value and trends, segmentation, identification of similar products or technologies, and analysis of industry leaders and potential competitors.
Analysis based on the reprocessing of patent data to highlight technological and market trends and their use as indicators of innovation, research and development strategies, or to study the relationships between technological development and economic growth.
Methods and tools for collecting, filtering, processing and querying data on companies or sectors of interest. This includes Innovation Intelligence FVG, a database of capital companies located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, which integrates data from various sources.
The award gets its name form the first director of the PATLIB Center at Area Science Park. This annual event is aimed at young graduates and PhD holders to promote the information potential of patents and research data, and to enhance the value of new related investigation and analysis techniques and methodologies.
