Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste SCpA
An international multidisciplinary research centre of excellence specialising in the generation of high-quality synchrotron and free-electron laser light and its applications in materials and life sciences.
The mission of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is to promote cultural, social and economic growth through:
- basic and applied research
- technology and know-how transfer
- advanced technical, scientific and management training
- the creation and coordination of national and international scientific networks.
The primary resources of the research centre are two advanced light sources, the electron storage ring Elettra and the free electron laser (FEL) FERMI. Operating continuously (24 hours a day), they provide light of the selected “colour” and quality to over 30 experimental stations allowing the characterisation of the structure and function of matter with sensitivity down to the molecular and atomic levels. These powerful means are used by a large community of researchers from academia and industry to produce nanostructures and devices, and to develop new technological processes.
