The AI-GRAPE project aims to support the digitalization of the wine-growing sector in the Italy-Slovenia cross-border area through the development of a Decision Support System (DSS) based on artificial intelligence (AI). The primary goal is the prevention of diseases caused by harmful insects in vineyards, improving the sustainability and precision of viticulture.

By integrating data from various sources (weather stations, micro-environmental sensors, drones, satellites, and insect traps), the project seeks to create predictive models to anticipate infestations and reduce pesticide use. The adoption of advanced technologies like machine learning and big data analysis will enable winemakers to intervene promptly and more efficiently.

Main results:

– 20% reduction in pesticide use through AI-based predictive models, which will anticipate insect infestations and reduce chemical usage.

– 15% increase in vineyard yield through more precise and sustainable crop management based on data collected and analyzed by the DSS.

– 10% reduction in crop losses due to harmful insect infestations thanks to timely and targeted intervention enabled by predictive models.

– Development of a prototype DSS (AI-GRAPE), accessible via a web platform, providing winemakers with tools for data-driven decision-making.

– Establishment of a cross-border innovation ecosystem to foster the digitalization of viticulture and collaboration between businesses and institutions in the Italy-Slovenia area.

– Increased adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, raising environmental awareness and trust in digitalization processes among winemakers.
