Area Science Park is offering three visiting research fellowships, each lasting three consecutive months, to researchers of Kenyan nationality wishing to carry out research activities at the Data Engineering Laboratory (LADE) in Trieste, within the PRP@CERIC ecosystem. The fellowships are part of an Italian Ministry of Universities and Research programme supporting international research mobility and access to research infrastructures. The expected start period is January 2027.

The research activities will focus on:

  • Track A | FAIR-by-design data pipelines for genomics and HPC: development of reproducible, automated data pipelines connecting genomic research workflows with high-performance computing infrastructure, following FAIR data principles.
  • Track B | Benchmarking generative large language models: evaluation of generative LLMs in terms of performance, scalability, accuracy and computational efficiency across different models, hardware configurations and inference strategies.
  • Track C | AI-augmented numerical simulation for biological applications: application of machine learning techniques to enhance numerical simulations, including surrogate models, parameter estimation and optimisation for biological research.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Kenyan nationality and an active research profile at a university, research organisation or equivalent institution;
  • enrolment in a PhD programme, or a PhD or equivalent qualification corresponding to EQF level 8, relevant to the proposed research;
  • relevant experience in at least one of the research areas described above;
  • good command of English and availability to carry out the fellowship in Trieste.

Early-career researchers and women researchers are particularly encouraged to apply.
