POST TITLE: Biosecurity Project Manager
DUTY STATION: Trieste, Italy
DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Project appointment entirely funded by External Funds: WC/25/024 – advancing biosecurity and biology for peaceful purposes within the framework of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).
DURATION: An initial probation period of three months, with the possibility of one-year extensions subject to satisfactory performance and funds availability.
LEVEL: GS-4 (UN Salary Scales)
DUTIES: Under the guidance and supervision of the Group Leader of Molecular Virology, this role will lead the implementation of training and capacity-building programs within the BIOGUARD Framework, with a particular focus on Central Asia and Eastern Europe. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with relevant ICGEB offices, including Meetings and Courses, External Relations, Human Resources, External Funds, CRP and Fellowships, Technology Transfer, Cooperation and Innovation, Legal and Administration, as well as Outreach and Communication, and perform the following duties:
- Monitor project implementation against the approved workplan, identify risks, and develop and implement mitigation plans.
- Engage with donors and partners in Central Asia and Eastern Europe to ensure project implementation.
- Responsible for the organisation and delivery of hands-on Courses, Workshops and Conferences in the Region.
- Contribute to the selection of Biosecurity Fellowships and CRPs, including review processes and alignment with donor priorities.
- Liaise with International Organizations (i.e. BWC ISU UNODA, WHO, WOHA, G7 GP, FAO etc) in the Region and attend international events as and when required by supervisor.
- Assist in the tutoring of visitors and fellows operating in Biosecurity at ICGEB.
- Develop and maintain a network of Biosecurity fellows to support long term project impact.
- Coordinate with internal Units, to develop promotional and outreach materials to enhance project visibility.
- Monitor the dedicated mailbox and ensure timely responses to inquiries and requests concerning BIOGUARD.
- Collect and organize data to support the submission of progress and final reports by relevant Units.
- Coordinate and organize country visits.
- Assist in data analysis and contribute to grant/paper writing.
- Assist in the execution of experiments in the field of Biosecurity.
- Perform other work-related duties as may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. An Advanced University Degree in Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology or related fields is an asset. A minimum of (4) years of relevant experience including two (2) in Pathogens Detection and Biosecurity. Prior experience in providing administrative or operational support to project development and/or project management activities is required. Experience in international cooperation frameworks is considered an asset.

Strong, interpersonal and communication skills combined with strong organizational, planning, analytical and reporting abilities.
Proven experience in providing administrative and operational support to project implementation, including tracking progress, and liaison with partners and stakeholders.
Proficiency in digital tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint,
Internet applications, organizational platforms.
LANGUAGES: Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of Russian or other Central Asia languages is an asset.
