POST TITLE:                             Research Technician


DUTY STATION:                       Trieste, Italy


DATE REQUIRED:                   1 April 2021


TYPE OF CONTRACT:            Fixed-term appointment


DURATION:                              Initial period of three months, with possibility of one year further extensions subject to performance.


LEVEL:                                       GS-2 (UN Salary Scales)


DUTIES:                                     Under the supervision of the Group Leader of Molecular Hematology, the incumbent will assist the scientists of the laboratory performing the following duties:


–    perform experiments related to the research activities of the Molecular Hematology Group;

–    organise the technical assistance to all the personnel working in the group, including maintenance of equipment, cell lines, transgenic models and storage of delicate reagents;

–    organise the procurement of reagents and equipment and follow the financial situation of the Group;

–    collaborate in the supervision of students and fellows operating in the Group;

  • perform other work-related duties as may be required.



QUALIFICATIONS:                Applicants should have minimum a University Degree in Biology, Biotechnology or a related field. Prior experience working with transgenic models is essential. Experience in cell culture and flow cytometry is an asset.



COMPETENCIES:                Ability to work in a team, problem-solving and interpersonal skills and interest in working in an international environment.



LANGUAGES:                     English. Italian is an asset.
