The ICGEB invites applications for the post of Technician

POST TITLE: Technician
DUTY STATION: Trieste, Italy
DATE REQUIRED: 1 January 2021
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Fixed-term appointment
DURATION: Initial period of three months, with possibility of one year further extensions subject to performance.
LEVEL: GS-1 75% part-time (UN Salary Scales)
DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Head, Technical Services, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

• Assist with maintenance of special laboratories such as clean rooms, BL3 and GLP/GMP laboratories;
• Install, maintain, diagnose and make small repairs of laboratory instruments such as incubators, centrifuges, microscopes, chemical hoods, laminar flow hoods, vacuum pumps, autoclaves, ovens etc.;
• Provide scientific staff with advice and guidance on maintaining their equipment and laboratory accessories;
• Provision of technical supplies and other routine technical service work;
• Technical assistance on the thermo-conditioning system;
• Inspection of all “non-stop” instruments during week-ends and holidays and availability for emergency outcall after working hours;
• Ultimately provide training in maintenance of laboratory equipment and be prepared to travel to low resource settings for such purposes;
• Perform other work related duties as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma. Previous experience in laboratory equipment maintenance is an asset.
COMPETENCIES: Manual dexterity with a proven ability and aptitude for trouble shooting and repairing instruments. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and requests, with an attention to detail and good problem-solving skills. Good interpersonal skills and interest in working in an International environment.
LANGUAGES: English essential, Italian is an asset.
