{"id":21105,"date":"2026-04-24T11:42:28","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T09:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.areasciencepark.it\/?p=21105"},"modified":"2026-04-27T11:12:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T09:12:21","slug":"astrophysics-and-food-science-win-famelab-trieste","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.areasciencepark.it\/en\/astrophysics-and-food-science-win-famelab-trieste\/","title":{"rendered":"Astrophysics and Food Science Win FameLab Trieste"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From cosmic rays to the proteins of the future: these are the topics that won over the audience at <strong>FameLab Trieste 2026<\/strong>, the international science communication talent competition. <strong>The winners of the local selection<\/strong>, held on April 23 in a packed Teatro Miela, are <strong>Pietro Monti-Guarnieri<\/strong> (a PhD student in astroparticle physics at the University of Trieste and INFN Trieste) and <strong>Roberta Pratolini<\/strong> (a PhD student at the University of Udine), who will both advance to the national final of FameLab Italy.<\/p>\n<p>In just three minutes, the <strong>18 contestants<\/strong> transformed complex topics into accessible and engaging stories, demonstrating how science can be clear, surprising, and even entertaining. The evening was hosted by Simone Kodermaz, a physicist, violinist, and winner of the first Trieste edition back in 2013.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Third place and the audience award went to Smritirekha Talukdar<\/strong> from the Business Support Unit of Area Science Park, who combined neuroscience and sustainable energy in a brilliant talk on neuroplasticity and possible alternatives to fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>The event was organized by Immaginario Scientifico, together with the University of Trieste, the University of Udine, SISSA, and the Municipality of Trieste, as part of the \u201cTrieste City of Knowledge\u201d initiative.
